Why Sterilisation Saves More Lives Than You Think
When most people think of animal rescue, they picture dramatic saves — a dog pulled from a drain, a cat rescued from a high-rise. But the most impactful work we do is quieter, and it happens before the suffering begins.
Our Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme sterilises and vaccinates free-roaming dogs across the Tricity area. Here's why this matters.
The Numbers
A single unspayed female dog can be responsible for up to **67,000 descendants** in six years when accounting for all offspring and their offspring.
Each dog we sterilise breaks that chain — permanently.
What Our ABC Drive Covers
Pre-surgery:
- Health screening and blood work
- Anti-rabies vaccination
- Deworming and tick treatment
Surgery:
- TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) protocol
- Performed under full anaesthesia by licensed vets
- Ear-notching for identification post-release
Post-surgery:
- 48-hour observation at our recovery centre
- Return to original territory
- Follow-up community monitoring
Community Impact
In the areas where we've run sustained ABC drives — Sector 20 Panchkula, Manimajra — we've seen a measurable reduction in dog bites reported to the municipal corporation over 18 months.
Sterilisation isn't just about population control. It reduces aggression, territorial behaviour, and the suffering that comes with repeated pregnancies in harsh conditions.
How You Can Help
Sponsoring a single sterilisation costs ₹1,500 and prevents thousands of future animals from suffering. Every contribution to our ABC fund directly funds a procedure.
