The Story Behind the Bhau
A community-driven initiative for the animals that are often overlooked.
The Bhau Project
The Bhau Project is a community-driven animal welfare initiative dedicated to helping stray and abandoned animals live safer, healthier lives.
We exist for the animals that are often overlooked — the ones without a voice, a home, or someone to care.

Why We Started
What began as small, individual acts of kindness — feeding a hungry dog, helping an injured animal — soon revealed a much larger need.
Too many animals were left injured and untreated, hungry and struggling to survive, without access to basic care.
We realised this couldn’t be occasional help. It needed consistent, committed action.
And that’s how The Bhau Project was born.

Formally inaugurated by Ms. Rekha Sharma, MP (Rajya Sabha).
Our Story
What started with two ambulances has grown into something bigger. Every animal we’ve helped became a reason to keep going.
Started with 2 ambulances
Two ambulances, a phone number, and a commitment to show up. That's how this started.
Built a post-op recovery facility
Rescue alone isn't enough. We built a space where animals can recover properly after surgery, away from the streets.
Working towards a permanent shelter
Some animals can't go back. We're building somewhere they can stay.
Mission & Vision
Care for every life.
No animal should suffer without care. From the moment we reach them to the moment they recover, we make sure every life gets the attention it deserves.
A kinder world.
A world where it’s normal to stop for an injured animal. Where every neighbourhood takes care of the animals that share its streets.
Our Initiatives
Our work goes beyond rescue. We step into communities to make everyday life a little safer, kinder, and more comfortable for animals who call the streets their home.

The Bori Beds Initiative
Cold winter nights can be unforgiving for community animals. Through this initiative, we distributed over 600 bori beds to help them stay warm, rest easier, and feel a little more protected.

Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive
With care for both animals and the community, we conducted a vaccination drive covering over 300 community dogs across the tricity — helping create a safer, healthier environment for all.

Collar & Tag Drive
A small detail can make a big difference. By distributing collars and identification tags, we helped community dogs become more visible, safer, and a little more looked after on the streets.
Meet the Lives You’ve Changed
Every rescue has a name. Here are a few of the lives that made it through — because someone chose to show up.

Jimmy
Found injured on the roadside, unable to move, Jimmy's chances looked uncertain. Today, she runs freely in our shelter — full of life, strength, and joy.

Gucci
Rescued at just two months old while battling parvo, Gucci fought through the odds. Now over a year old, he's thriving — healthy, playful, and full of life.

Pari
Hit by a speeding car and left with broken legs, Pari was in immense pain when we found her. With timely rescue and care, she healed — and today, she stands strong, a true symbol of resilience.
If you’d like to be part of this — through donations, volunteering, or adoption — we’d love to have you with us.
