Hit by a Car: Raja's Long Road to Recovery
Raja had been a familiar face in the Chandigarh Industrial Area for years — a gentle brown dog who greeted workers every morning. When a speeding truck clipped him near Gate 3, he dragged himself under a parked car and refused to move.
A factory worker called our helpline at midnight. Our team was there within 30 minutes.
The Diagnosis
On arrival, Raja was in shock — pale gums, rapid breathing, and unable to bear weight on his hindquarters. Our on-call vet assessed him immediately.
Injuries:
- Fractured pelvis (bilateral)
- Internal bruising
- Road rash across the right flank
Surgery & Post-Op Care
Raja underwent surgery the following morning. Our surgical team performed a femoral head ostectomy (FHO), which gave him the best chance at a pain-free life without a hip joint prosthesis.
Post-operative care included:
- 10 days of in-patient monitoring
- Physiotherapy exercises twice daily
- Nutritional support for bone healing
- Gradual weight-bearing rehabilitation
Today
Six weeks after surgery, Raja took his first unassisted steps. He now walks with a slight gait alteration but lives pain-free at our permanent shelter, where he greets every volunteer with the same enthusiasm he once gave those factory workers.
